Makunudu Island is a boutique resort with just 36 bungalows in a traditional Maldivian style, situated on an idyllic palm fringed island in North Male Atoll. The peaceful and welcoming resort is perfect for a quiet, intimate holiday or honeymoon - one of our favourites in the Maldives.
Guests can relax on one of Makunudu island's superb beaches or indulge in one of the rejuvenating treatments offered in Aavun Spa. Those who are more active can sail or perhaps go night fishing with local fishermen. The house reef offers great snorkelling while a number of spectacular dive sites can be found nearby - each guest can learn to dive thanks to the complimentary introductory dive offered by the resort's PADI dive centre. Sunset cruises and private champagne lunches on a secluded sandbank are perfect for honeymooners and guests enjoying a romantic getaway. Aavun Spa offers a variety of facials, massages and other treatments.
The 36 thatched bungalows are discreetly set behind the beach amongst the lush foliage, blending rustic charm with modern comforts. Many bungalows and public areas have recently been refurbished to ensure the highest quality throughout.
Holidays to Makunudu Island are on a full board basis, allowing guests to enjoy the excellent cuisine that Ara Iru restaurant has quite a reputation for. Buffet-style lunches offer a selection of meats, fish, salads and tropical fruits, whilst dinner is a carefully prepared set menu which includes eclectic flavours to suit all tastes. There are also regular barbecues and traditional Maldivian buffet dinners, or guests can celebrate a special occasion with a private dinner on the beach, in their bungalow or in another idyllic location around the island. The Sand Bar offers cocktails overlooking the sea, while Miyaru is a new beach bar serving light snacks and lunches. For an extra special experience visit Malaafath, a romantic tree house where you can celebrate in private.
Makunudu Island is a very relaxing, laid back, value for money Maldivian resort, highly recommended for couples, honeymooners and guests celebrating a special occasion. With so few rooms at Makunudu and such an excellent reputation for good food and relaxation, you will need to book early (at least 12 months ahead for Christmas and Easter) to avoid disappointment.
