Filitheyo Island Resort is a quiet, modern Maldives hotel situated in the remote North Nilandhe Atoll, boasting an excellent range of facilities as well as attentive staff. Constructed in typical Maldivian style using thatch, stone and timber, the bars and restaurants of Filitheyo Island Resort are attractive and full of character.
Accommodation at Filitheyo Island Resort consists of 125 villas which are dotted around the island, just behind the beach or over the water. The Superior rooms are modern, comfortable semi-detached units set back from the beach with an attractive rustic feel due to the thatched roofs and open air bathrooms. Guests can choose to upgrade to a Deluxe Villa for even greater luxury and privacy, while the 16 Water Villas are built on stilts over the lagoon and boast private verandas with sun loungers.
Guests can stay at Filitheyo Island Resort on a half board, full board or all-inclusive basis. The main restaurant at Filitheyo Island Resort serves three buffet meals a day with an excellent variety to cater for international tastes, while the Sunset Restaurant serves a la carte dinners adjacent to the pool which are not included in the standard meal plans.
The house reef has numerous entry points around the island for great snorkelling and the sea near the water villas is shallow with sandy areas. Filitheyo Island Resort also has an excellent dive school, offering a range of PADI and CMAS courses, as well as a good range of non-motorised water sports.
Guests looking to relax can enjoy the island’s spa where a full range of treatments is available or perhaps opt for a picnic on the nearby tropical island of Hamza – a real treat.
After the fantastic seaplane arrival, approaching Filitheyo on the island’s boat I appreciated how lush and pretty the island is. The island has a lovely feel to it, as you walk through the tree lined pathways, and you are never far away from a smiling member of staff who can’t seem to do enough for you. I like the touches of Filitheyo such as having the same waiter for dinner service each evening, and the bar staff remembering your drink of choice. The house reef is brilliant here with various entry points around the island. I saw several rays and a couple of reef sharks literally just off the beach whilst snorkelling here. There is also a fairly shallow sandy area close to the water villas which is nice for those who simply want to swim and enjoy the Indian Ocean.
For those wanting to treat themselves, take yourself to the spa as it is beautiful; then take yourself back to your water villa where the sunsets are amazing!
My tip would be if staying at Filitheyo, make sure you snorkel on the reef, and if wanting to venture off the island and do something special, head over to Hamza Island for a picnic on your very own island- the prawn noodle salad was sumptuous!!!
