Mandarin Oriental Canouan, formerly known as Pink Sands Club, is an exclusive and extremely luxurious resort within a 1200 acre gated estate on a small island in the heart of the Grenadines. The secluded resort occupies a spectacular setting beside a white sand beach on the east of Canouan, overlooking turquoise waters that are protected by one of the Caribbean’s largest living coral reefs.
There is a pink theme throughout, from colourful furnishings in guest bedrooms to bright sunshades on the beach. Accommodation options include one and two bedroom ocean-facing suites which all have a private balcony or garden just steps from the beach, as well as spacious villas with private pools.
The elegant and sumptuously furnished suites occupy the main hotel building and boast spacious bedrooms, light-filled living areas, airy covered terraces, walk-in wardrobes and huge marble bathrooms. Luxurious touches include mirror TVs, sliding mirrors which separate the sleeping and living areas and tablets which guests can use for everything from requesting room service to controlling the room temperature, lights and curtains. Two- and three-bedroom villas are set up the hillside behind the main resort, boasting spectacular views from the patio area surrounding the private infinity pool.
Dining at the resort is exceptional with beachside restaurants serving mouth-watering menus featuring the freshest produce, while additional restaurants and bars are found in other locations within the estate. Options in the main resort include a Mediterranean-style café which open for breakfast and lunch, a pool bar serving a fusion of Japanese-Peruvian cuisine throughout the day and evening, and two fine dining restaurants offering European and Pan Asian cuisine. A beachfront bar provides an additional space for afternoon drinks and pre-dinner cocktails. Restaurants are open seasonally on a rotating schedule, with a current guide available for guests to look at on the tablet in their suite or in an app which can be downloaded prior to arrival.
Guests at Mandarin Oriental Canouan can spend their days doing as much or as little as they please. Relax in a cabana by the large infinity pool, take a dip and enjoy a cocktail at the swim-up bar or stroll along the powdery white sands in front of the hotel. Those looking for activity can take part in water sports such as hobie cat sailing, windsurfing and kayaking, while a few minutes away by golf buggy is Carenage Bay where guests will find a golf club and tennis centre with three floodlit courts. Canouan is home to the only championship 18-hole golf course in the Grenadines, a par-72 Jim Fazio-designed course offering spectacular panoramic views over the surrounding islands.
Also at Carenage Bay is the Pirates of Canouan Kids Club, a fantastic facility which is complimentary for youngsters aged 3 years and above. There is plenty of space indoors for arts and crafts, cooking, music and much more, while outside there is a large play area and two swimming pools, one for small children with water slides and the other also suitable for adults.
Another highlight of Mandarin Oriental Canouan is the spa, a calming retreat for the body and soul which is set over 9 levels at one end of the resort. Treatment rooms are tucked away up the hillside and reached by a funicular, with ESPA products used in the many rejuvenating treatments and therapies that are on offer. Guided yoga and meditation classes are held on a platform facing the sea.
Canouan itself is a beautiful island that is well worth exploring - guests staying in a villa receive complimentary use of up to two golf carts while those staying in a suite can hire one.
