The Maldives is an excellent holiday destination all year round, with daytime temperatures remainign constant at about 28 degrees centigrade (82 degrees fahrenheit) all year round. The humidity is slightly lower in the dry season but most days there's a cooling sea breeze.
The drier period is from December to March, which coincides with high season as Europe experiences colder weather so demand increases. During this period, hotel rates are higher and many resorts are booked several months in advance.
The south-west monsoon lasts from April to November, and brings wetter weather with more storms and occasional strong winds. Downpours tend to be heavy but short, usually over in fifteen minutes. A few minutes after the rain ends, the sun is out and the ground has dried. In our experience a full day's rain is rare and a holiday in the low season can be just as enjoyable, with fewer people and better value for money.
