Huvadhu Atoll is the second largest atoll in the Maldives in terms of size, and the largest in terms of number of islands. The remote Huvadhu Atoll is divided into two districts - Gaafu Alifu Atoll in the north and Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll in the south.
Gaafu Alifu has 11 inhabited islands and a population of around 9300, while Gaafu Dhaalu has 10 inhabited islands and a population of around 11600.
