St Lucia : When to go

As with most Caribbean destinations the winter months see the most travellers because of the warm, dry temperatures. December to March is often the most popular because these are the driest months across the year.

Winter temperatures tend to average around 27°C, a perfect temperature for a Caribbean break. Summer months see an increase in temperature to an average of 29°C, also, hurricane season tends to fall between June and October, hence the summer months tend to be quieter as precipitation is always slightly higher. Between the months of June and November travellers should expect heavy but sporadic showers that come on quickly but are almost just as quick to finish.

People travelling to St Lucia should also be aware that the climate tends to vary across the island, dependent on the natural landscape, for example when exploring more green and dense areas of the rainforest the temperature is likely to be high and more humid. However, when visiting Rodney Bay, the temperatures will be high but the air will feel fresher due to the breeze coming off the water.

St Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival (early May): A long-standing jazz festival with live music performances, street parties and fashion shows held in over 15 stunning St Lucian venues. Music genres include jazz, calypso, soca and R&B, with artists coming from across the Caribbean and beyond.

St Lucia Carnival (mid July): A lively and colourful event which includes dancing, street parades, story telling and much partying throughout the island, although the major events take place in Castries.

Chocolate Heritage Month (August): A celebration of the thriving cocoa industry, where visitors to the island can take part in cocoa plantation tours, sample chocolate-inspired dishes and indulge in spa treatments that make use of the product.

Creole Day (October): Known as Jounen Kweyol, this festival celebrates the island’s rich Creole heritage and features cultural demonstrations and musical performances.Towns across the island host events, giving visitors the opportunity to learn more about the diverse influences and to sample Creole dishes.

ARC (mid December): The Atlantic Rally for Cruisers is a journey of 2700 nautical miles from Gran Canaria to Rodney Bay, where hundreds of yachts arrive in St Lucia and join in the celebrations.
